Lawn Mower Troubleshooting

If you are having any trouble with starting your  garden tractor, lawn mower, weed eater-trimmer, chain saw etc... Here are some useful tips of advice. First, check to see that you have gas. Next, check for spark by pulling the plug out and ground it to metal. Then pull the starter string or hit the starter switch. Watch for spark. If there is no spark you may need to sand the connections on the coil and the magneto. This may very well solve the problem.  It's a whole different ball game then having trouble starting anything from the late 70s and earlier. The older machines have whats called a points and condenser unit. It is located under the fly wheel or magneto. You must unbolt the cover in order to get to the points. Sometimes, sanding the points will do the trick. If that doesn't fix it, you can take it in to your local small engine repair shop and get new ones. Here is a video that shows You how to clean your coil, magneto, and plug.    If you are having problems with your riding mower please visit my riding mower troubleshooting page just click on the link.
